New Thorens TD 203 Turntable is Available

Thorens has always had an impressive roster of turntables and they expanded it to include the new TD 203 in early 2015. What makes this turntable different? Aside from the crisp distinct look, the table is marketed as an entry-level manual record player. It can be played right out of the box without the time-consuming hours of set-up that most high-end turntables require. If you want to purchase a TD 203 click the link below now or keep on reading!

TD 203 Red Large

According to Stereophile’s Michael Fremer, the process of setting up a new turntable can take up to three hours. Recognising that buyers of entry-level turntables don’t want to get involved in turntable set-up Thorens designed and manufactured the TD203 so that it works ‘straight out of the box.’ Heinz Rohrer, of Thorens, told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine: ‘It takes no more than five minutes from opening the box to playing the first, excellent- sounding piece of music from a vinyl record.”

The TD 203 has the sound quality of the award-winning, highly acclaimed TD 309, TD 209 and TD 206 models written in its DNA. And, like its siblings, it was developed Germany. The motor is decoupled from the plinth by means of rubber elements, and the bearing is made from bronze – seemingly small details that ensure longevity and years of listening pleasure. The belt tension can be easily re-adjusted if required, the pick-up cartridge changed in a matter of minutes, and the platter speed fine-tuned by simply turning a screw.

TD 203 White Large

While the TD 203 is factory-set to provide exceptional out-of-the-box performance, it leaves aficionados room to fine-tune and adjust the performance to their personal preferences. The tonearm, for example, offers facilities to adjust the height (vertical tracking angle) and the cartridge’s perpendicularity to the record’s surface (azimuth).

TD 203 White Large Back

The new Tonarm TP 82 – a first in this class – features a uni-pivot design. Its bearing is a carbide tip resting within an intricate arrangement of five very small bearing balls. The arm tube is made from rolled aluminium. The anti-skating bias is provided by a small weight. The tonearm comes pre-installed with the THORENS® TAS 257 cartridge, a high-quality moving-magnet pick-up suitable for all MM phono inputs.

It couldn’t be easier to install the TD 203: place the turntable on a rack and level its sub-chassis, loop the belt around the sub-platter, place the platter on the sub-platter, set the correct tracking force and get ready to re-discover your record collection.

Best part is… The table has already received highly-recognized awards and accolades in Germany. Just yesterday, March 3 2015, it received the Golden Ear award for best turntable at the Audio and Stereoplay Magazine readers choice awards in Munich Germany.
