The 900 series is complete!

With over two years of production time, the 900 series is another one of those items that we constantly thought was a dream. When we finally heard it was complete we were more than ecstatic! We have been hyped about this series over and over again and finally, she is here and boy are they beautiful!

TRADITIONAL VALUES – REINTERPRETED

Paying homage to the legendary TD 150 and TD 160 models of the sixties and seventies, THORENS® has reinterpreted the sub-chassis turntable with a state-of-the-art, ground-up development using the latest materials. Highest fidelity and dynamics were our main priorities during the development of the new turntable series. However, we also placed great importance on user friendliness, a timeless aesthetics as well as flexible configuration and upgrade options while retaining the traditional sub-chassis design.

NEW MATERIALS

The sub-chassis is made of triCom, an aluminium/POM composite characterized by excellent damping properties and high stiffness. Its weight has been optimized for high performance. To reduce vibrations, the synchronous AC motor is mounted directly onto the damped sub-chassis. It drives the sub-platter via a machined precision belt.

NEW ARCHITECTURE

The sub-chassis is suspended by means of three conical springs which can be adjusted from above in order to achieve uniform tension. The bearing is made of sintered bronze with a Tefl on® thrust pad and optimized for smooth running. The steel axle supported therein provides very low, constant friction and thus presents a uniform load to the motor. Two of the turntable’s three feet can be leveled from above, which facilitates setup.

Depending on the model, different damping architectures, tonearm boards and platters are used. The design can accommodate a wide variety of 9” and 10” tonearms also from third-party manufacturers.

The TD 907

The current reference to the line the TD 907 has all the bells and whistles to make this truly one of the elite turntables in the world. With a manual mode of operation and the classic belt drive, it follows in line with all high end Thorens turntables.

The Motor

A newly developed, fully electronically controlled and stabilized AC synchronous motor is utilized. This motor allows for fine adjustment of speed. Spinning precisely at 33 1/3 and 45 RPM, this motor is capable of ensuring your vinyl always sings at the perfect speed. The speed change is done electronically allowing for quicker speed changes between 33 and 45.

Three Part Platter

The polished aluminum platter features an acrylic insert that acts as a damping pad for the grooved area of the record. Weighing in at 1.8kg the platter allows its weight to act as further damping. The sub-platter is also aluminum and comes in at 1.5kg.

Damping Architecture

A conical polypropylene membrane under the platter bearing is decoupled from the triCom base via a visco/propylene layer. The air chamber thus formed under the membrane vents into ten apertures in the base plate which can be opened or closed with a slide.
